It is hydrogen carrying an extra neutron, which makes it roughly twice as heavy. Ordinary drinking water typically contains around 150 parts per million of deuterium. Deuterium-depleted water is water that has been processed to reduce that concentration below natural levels.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBecause deuterium is chemically identical to hydrogen and differs only in mass, no filter can remove it. Carbon filters, ceramic filters, reverse osmosis and ordinary distillation all leave it untouched.
