This is a checklist of the objective things you can verify before you buy. It is deliberately written as criteria rather than opinions, and it applies to any seller, including us.
Why DDW Needs a Checklist at All
With deuterium-depleted water, the specification is an absence — the deuterium that has been removed, measured in parts per million (ppm). Ordinary water sits at roughly 150ppm. A depleted water might be 50ppm, 25ppm or lower. That difference is not detectable by a buyer: you cannot taste 25ppm against 100ppm, and a standard water-quality test will not show it, because measuring deuterium requires specialist isotopic analysis in a laboratory.
So a ppm figure on a label is a specification, and a specification is worth what the documentation behind it is worth. Everything below is about that documentation.
The Checklist

| Is a specific ppm stated on the label? | A number can be compared and verified. A description without a number cannot. |
| What is the refund and returns policy? | Read it before ordering: what is covered, over what period, who pays return freight, and what happens with damaged or leaking stock. |
| What is the delivered price per litre at the stated ppm? | Including shipping. This is the only figure that compares two products on the same basis. |
| What is claimed for the product? | In Australia, packaged water is a food under the FSANZ Food Standards Code. It is not a therapeutic good, and it is worth knowing what any seller is and is not saying. |
A Note on Home Methods
You will sometimes see it suggested that freezing, filtering or reverse osmosis can lower deuterium. They cannot to any meaningful degree, for a physical reason rather than a commercial one: deuterium is chemically almost identical to ordinary hydrogen, so these processes do not distinguish between them. Separating hydrogen isotopes requires industrial equipment running many thousands of sequential stages. Our article on how DDW is made covers the physics.
On Price
Deuterium depletion is slow and energy-intensive, and the cost rises the further down you go, because each additional increment of depletion takes more separation work than the last. That is simply the economics of the process. The useful comparison is delivered price per litre at a stated, certificated ppm, rather than headline price, since a lower ppm and a higher ppm are different products.
It is also worth thinking about how you will use it. A 25ppm water gives you a known low baseline that can be drunk as it is or diluted with ordinary water to a higher concentration, which makes one product flexible across different uses.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I check before buying DDW?
Where the water was manufactured, whether a full certificate of analysis is published, whether the batch number on that certificate matches your bottle, which laboratory and method were used to measure the deuterium, the stated ppm, the refund policy, and the delivered price per litre.
Why does the certificate matter so much?
Deuterium cannot be seen, tasted, smelled or picked up by ordinary water testing; it needs isotope ratio mass spectrometry or laser spectroscopy in a laboratory. The certificate is the only way a buyer can connect the number on the label to a measurement.
What ppm is available?
DDW is commercially produced from around 125ppm down to 25ppm or lower, against roughly 150ppm in ordinary water. Lower concentrations cost more to make.
Can I make deuterium-depleted water at home?
Not at any meaningful level of depletion. Filtering, freezing, boiling and reverse osmosis do not separate hydrogen isotopes to any meaningful degree. Depletion requires industrial isotope-separation equipment.
How do I compare prices between brands?
Compare delivered price per litre at a stated, certificated ppm, including shipping. Comparing a 25ppm product with a 100ppm product on headline price alone is comparing different specifications.
